2021 Llama Resolutions

New Year's is a time for reflection on the year coming to an end, and setting goals for the year to come. We have always found the process of goal setting more interesting than watching Ryan Seacrest on TV. In addition to thinking about goals for our careers, health, etc. this year we wrote out a few goals for our llama program too. We thought we would share some ideas, and you could do the same!
Picture
  • Volunteer at a llama show or event
  • Plan (or help plan) an activity, farm tour, or community event for National Llama Appreciation day June 21st, 2021
  • Let a 4-Her borrow/train a llama for the year
  • Try something new with your llamas. If you’ve never been to show sign up, or if shows are old hat sign up for that obstacle, fiber, or halter class you haven’t tried before. Train a llama to pack. Visit a nursing home or library with your friendliest llama. Try spinning, felting, or another fiber craft.
  • Make a list of goals for your llama program. Goals are helpful whether your focus is breeding, showing, packing, training your pet llamas, etc.
  • Rank the animals in your breeding program based on how well they help you meet your goals. We use this prioritizing grid on this website https://www.beverlyryle.com/prioritizing-grid
  • Create a farm website, or get to that overdue update. Facebook business pages are great, but if you’re anything like me you end up looking for the website link after about 2 minutes.
  • Change one thing about your farm setup. Fix that fence, get a load of gravel, build a new feeder, or hang that gate.
  • Learn to shear and give shots. If you’re a pro at both, find someone to teach.
  • Become a member of a new llama organization
  • Write an article for American Llama Magazine or a llama organization newsletter that you belong to
  • Work with two llamas weekly and try to make them “bomb proof”

Share some of your Llama Resolutions in the comments below! Happy New Year!

We are just getting started on our breeding program. My goal this year is to put more time in with each llama. I want to do community outreach and something with kids/nursing homes at some point. Working on building a herd with just the right personalities.
